Marcus runs the qualitative side of the benchmark. He designs the participant tasks that produce our Ease of Use scores — onboarding completion times, error-recovery flows, accessibility checks — and writes most of the narrative prose in individual reviews. He spent four years as a principal UX researcher at Duolingo on the Learner Habits team, where adherence and friction were the entire product, and three years before that at Strava on onboarding. He believes most calorie trackers fail because they are tedious, not because they are inaccurate.
